“M” — Take Two

MegaMonster “M” for Mayhem — Take Two

They say insanity is doing the same thing twice and expecting a different result.
Well, call me a clinically insane MegaMonster — because I went back for round two of the 3013-mile / <60-hour challenge, and the universe had some plans of its own.
I rolled out full of confidence, fueled, packed, caffeine stacked, and loaded with questionable decision-making for a long planned weekend. The route was ambitious — from Fort Kent, Maine, hugging the northern border into Quebec, tracing through Michigan, then Ohio, diving south through Georgia, with plans to pitstop to say hi to Hoka hey family in Kentucky then wrapping up in Tallahassee Florida for a bun burner run back north to CT. A masterpiece on paper. You see the “M” right?! Ok In real life? An adventure novel no editor could fix. 😂

Actual

Day one kicked off with a sunrise that could’ve been on a postcard — fog rolling through the valleys, the Victory humming along, and me thinking, “This is it, the ride is gonna be perfect.” Those that know me I enjoy riding at night especially through hot spots and dense areas.

Fast forward a few states later:
💥 Clutch cable issues (tennis elbow kicking in!)
🔥 Stator grommet starts leaking oil (ATV sealant for the fix!)
💨 Rear tire blowout #2 (plug for the win!)
⛽️ Aux gas tank cap lost (used sock cover for the win!)
⚡ Rectifier melts down in the Florida heat
At that point, I wasn’t sure if I was on a motorcycle endurance ride or filming a survival episode of “MegaMonster: The Saga.”
Between dodging thunderstorms near Rochester, wrenching roadside in Georgia, and power-napping next to Pluto (my stuffed good luck charm mascot, not the planet), I realized — this ride wasn’t about perfection. It was testing me yet again. Every curve, setback, and improvised fix was another story, another reason to laugh (eventually), and another reminder that this Wolf doesn’t quit — he adapts.
I met incredible people along the way, reconnected with friends, and still managed to rack up a ridiculous mileage trail that looks like a toddler’s crayon drawing on SpotWalla. And yeah, I caught plenty of ribbing from the Mile Monster guys and gals — but that’s part of the game. You can’t be a MegaMonster without Mega Mayhem. 🐺💀

There are always people you can count on — the ones who listen, guide, and pull you back to center when things get rough. For me, that’s Doug H. and Bill B., my guardian angels on two wheels, and my rock — Beth, my wife. ❤️
When the miles stretch long, the weather turns, and the plan goes sideways, they’re the steady voices that remind me, “You’ve been through worse — you got this.” Sometimes it’s not advice I need, just the sound of someone I love on the other end of the line after hours of riding through unfamiliar roads, foreign towns – out of the country, and the unknown.
It’s in those moments you realize — these rides don’t just test your endurance, they reveal your strength, your humility, and the people who truly have your back. 🏍️💀🐺
The M ride may not have ended with a shiny “M” on the map… but it ended with stories, and one hell of a laugh. And you better believe I’ll be back for Round 3 at some point down the road— because it’s not in the manual to give up. 😎
