A huge congratulations to Alex and Nichole for tracking down one of my Monster 79 Hero Coins — Turbo #7 — tucked away at Ingonish Beach in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Nova Scotia! This one was planted near the Ingonish Visitor center , right along the legendary Cabot Trail. And seeing somebody finally find one of these coins almost yrs after I left it behind is pretty freakin’ cool. 👊😎

🏍️ Why Ingonish?
Ingonish sits on the eastern side of Cape Breton Highlands National Park, where the mountains meet the Atlantic. You’ve got winding roads, elevation changes, forests, ocean views and overlooks — the kind of riding where you’re constantly fighting the urge to stop every five minutes for another picture.

And there’s something particularly cool about the exact area where I planted this coin. Right behind the visitor center are Ingonish Beach and Freshwater Lake. Over time, waves created a natural cobble barrier that separated what was once an ocean cove from the Atlantic, eventually forming Freshwater Lake. Today, you’ve essentially got the wild Atlantic saltwater on one side and calm freshwater on the other. That made this a pretty fitting place to leave a little treasure behind.

🪙 Why I Planted It Here
When I started planting my Monster 79 Hero Coins along my travels, I didn’t want to simply hide something at random coordinates. I wanted the coins to give another rider or explorer a reason to stop somewhere they might normally ride right past, get off the bike, look around and discover something about the place. Ingonish was perfect for that.

The coin itself was never meant to be the real treasure. It’s just the excuse to go looking. Maybe you discover a trail. Maybe you learn something about the area. Maybe you meet somebody along the way. Or maybe you simply stop long enough to appreciate a place. That’s why I’ve planted these little pieces of my adventures throughout Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, PEI, the Fundy region and along my travels throughout the East Coast.

📍 While You’re Here…
If you’re hunting this area or riding the Cabot Trail, don’t just grab the coin and disappear! The Freshwater Lake Trail starts near the Ingonish Beach day-use area and follows the shoreline through a landscape where you may encounter loons and signs of beavers. (I saw both!)
