KELLY’S MOUNTAIN GIVES UP ITS TREASURE — ALFIE #12 & TACO FOUND! 🪙🏍️

The hunt continues across Cape Breton, and Alex and Nichole have officially gone from LD motorcycle riders to treasure-hunting archaeologists. 😂

This time they tracked down another of my Monster 79 Hero Coins — Alfie #12 — along with another Monster, Taco, tucked away near the base of Kelly’s Mountain. And judging by Nichole’s message… “Worked up a sweat digging that one up… lol.” Apparently when I planted this sucker, I took the word “buried” a little too seriously. ⛏️

KELLY’S MOUNTAIN ROAD

Kelly’s Mountain is one of those roads that deserves more attention. Highway 105 climbs the mountain before dropping toward the Great Bras d’Or, with elevation changes, sweeping pavement and one wicked 180-degree-plus switchback near the bottom. From above, you get those incredible views across the water with the Seal Island Bridge waiting below. Put that stretch somewhere back in the States and we’d probably give every curve a ridiculous name, sell T-shirts at the bottom and spend the next 20 years arguing about who rode it fastest. 😂 Here, it’s just another spectacular road.

THE SEAL ISLAND BRIDGE

At the bottom you’re headed toward the Seal Island Bridge, officially the Great Bras d’Or Crossing, carrying Highway 105 across the channel. Opened in 1961, it’s the third-longest bridge in Nova Scotia, and that huge green steel arch is pretty hard to miss. But about halfway across, something else caught my eye…

“HOW THE HECK DO I GET DOWN THERE?”

Look toward the shoreline and you’ll spot this quaint little lighthouse nestled along the water. Naturally, my first thought wasn’t simply “that’s pretty.” It was: “How the heck do I get down THERE?” 😂. I tried finding an entrance or road that would get me closer but couldn’t figure it out during that ride. Turns out it’s the old McNeil Beach Lighthouse, sitting just south of the bridge.

So that one remains unfinished business. Maybe next time.

⚽ ALFIE #12 — SMALL DUDE, LOTS OF PERSONALITY & HEART

Now, there’s another reason I smile when I think about Alfie’s coin sitting out there. Alfie loves football. Okay, okay… soccer. ⚽😂

But Alfie’s also one tough little dude. He’s got that attitude where you can tell pretty quickly he’s not taking any crap from anybody. And that makes me laugh because he reminds me a little bit of myself when I was a lad. I once had an upperclassman giving me crap…

So apparently young Mark decided diplomacy had failed and clocked him with my He-Man lunchbox. 🤣🤣🤣

Yep.

Not my finest diplomatic achievement. But somewhere in Eternia, He-Man was probably proud.

“BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL…” I HAVE THE POWERRRRR!!! 💪😂

So Alfie, keep kicking that football — SOCCER BALL! — keep that toughness, keep that personality and keep being you, little dude.

🪙 THE JOURNEY IS PART OF THE TREASURE

That’s exactly why I planted these Monster 79 Hero Coins where I did. I wanted the journey to become part of the treasure. That little coin had been sitting there through Cape Breton rain, wind and snow, while who knows how many motorcycles passed nearby.

Waiting.

That’s what these hunts are supposed to be about: ride somewhere cool, explore someplace you might otherwise pass, get a little dirty, laugh your ass off, make a memory.

Alex and Nichole — another freaking awesome find. 👊

Alfie #12 is back above ground. Taco survived the mission. He-Man still has the power… and somewhere out there, another coin is waiting to be found. 🏴‍☠️🪙🐺🏍️⚽

I HAVE THE POWERRRR! 😂💪
