Gravity Won Five Times. My Guards Won Every Time!

Alright, folks! Here’s another real life review on two products. Before my Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge, I installed Advanblack’s two-step engine guard and saddlebag guards on my 2025 Road Glide. Now, after the Hoka Hey and nearly 30,000 miles on the product, it’s time for my review.
Did they hold up? Did they scrape in the twisties? And did those spinners survive five drops?
Let’s get into it!

One of the biggest decisions I had was choosing between the one-step and two-step engine guards. The one-step tip over end points sit higher, but I went with the two-step for a couple of reasons.
First, flexibility. Having those two levels gives me more options for mounting accessories.

Second, I wanted that extra peace of mind. After riding long days, sometimes exhausted, I wanted something that would protect my bike AND potentially make picking it back up a little easier if things went sideways. And believe me, during the Hoka Hey, things went sideways! FIVE TIMES! 🤣 My last drop was probably the best test of all. The bike went down at a pretty good angle in a church parking lot.

The results?
Not a scratch on my saddlebags. Not a dent in my fairing. Not even a nick on my handlebar ends! Those guards did EXACTLY what they were designed to do.
Now, let’s talk about something several riders were concerned about.
Do those lower spinners scrape when you’re hitting the twisties?
Yes, but only during some pretty aggressive cornering, I managed to scratch the bottoms of the front lower spinners. But here’s the important part: they never caught the pavement enough or negatively affected my riding during the leans into twisties on the Triple Nickel, Twisted Sisters, The Snake, Rattler.
And those spinners? After five drops, they’re still intact! Obviously, every drop is different, but after what I’ve put these things through, I’m pretty damn impressed.
My final verdict?
These guards are built from strong metal, they’re functional, and they look sleek as hell on the Road Glide. For me, the two-step design was absolutely the right choice. Between the accessory-mounting flexibility, the added protection and the peace of mind, I have ZERO regrets. I can confidently say these guards have earned their place on my bike.

Advanblack offers several colors and styles of both engine guards and saddlebag guards, so check out their website to see what works best for your ride.
