REVIEW: TRASHIN SKID PLATE

YOUR HARLEY’S SOFT UNDERBELLY CALLED. IT WANTS A BODYGUARD.

Some accessories are there to impress people at bike night. Others are there to help get you home when the road decides to get creative. Ride long enough and you’re bound to hit construction zones, gravel roads, potholes, road debris, or that mystery object that makes you instantly look in your mirrors and think, “”Well, that didn’t sound good.” That’s exactly why the Trashin’ Skid Plate earned a permanent spot on my bike.

Take a look underneath your Harley and you’ll quickly realize there’s a lot of important stuff living down there. Water pump, fan, wiring, hoses, sensors… basically a collection of expensive parts hanging out in the splash zone where rocks, gravel, potholes, road debris, and random highway garbage go looking for new friends. At high speeds, a pebble isn’t a pebble anymore. It’s a repair bill.

This year alone I’ve logged over 30,000 miles between Hoka Hey, IBA rides, and SCMA certifications. Along the way, I’ve learned that the best upgrades aren’t always the ones getting compliments at bike night. Sometimes they’re the ones quietly standing guard underneath the bike, and that’s exactly where the Trashin’ Skid Plate shines.

Real-World Performance

Touring riders quickly learn that not every road is freshly paved and well perfect.

Over the past year, this skid plate has seen dirt mountain roads, gravel lots, construction detours, rough pavement, questionable railroad crossings, unexpected road debris, and torrential rain. Through it all, it provided peace of mind knowing some of the most vulnerable components on the motorcycle had an extra layer of protection. The best part? I never had to think about it. That’s exactly what you want. Protection that simply does its job every mile, every ride, every day.

Installation

One of the things I appreciate most about the Trashin’ Skid Plate is how straightforward the installation is. No complicated modifications. No special wizardry. No engineering degree required. The fitment is excellent, the hardware is robust, and installation can be completed with basic tools in a short amount of time. It’s the kind of upgrade that delivers immediate value without turning into an all-day garage project. In fact, the biggest challenge may be explaining to your riding buddies why you’re so excited about a skid plate!

Protection That Influenced Other Modifications

Here’s something that’s probably the strongest endorsement I can give. While evaluating other aftermarket accessories before Hoka Hey, I specifically chose to keep the Trashin’ Skid Plate installed rather than sacrifice protection for appearance. Some modifications make the bike look cooler. This one helps keep the bike running. When you’re preparing for an endurance challenge through remote locations and unpredictable conditions, those priorities become clear.

Value

The Trashin’ Skid Plate may never be the most glamorous accessory on your Harley. Nobody is gathering around at bike night to admire your water-pump protection strategy. But value isn’t always measured by compliments. It’s measured by confidence. When compared to the potential cost of a damaged cooling component, water pump, sensor, wiring repair, or an unexpected tow truck ride, the skid plate becomes one of the easiest (below $100) value decisions you can make.

It’s inexpensive insurance for some very expensive components.

Final Verdict

My opinion is simple:
The Trashin’ Skid Plate isn’t the flashiest accessory on my 2025 Road Glide, but it may be one of the smartest. It’s rugged, well-built metal, easy to install, and designed to protect a vulnerable area that many riders don’t think about until something goes wrong. The skid plate gets you home.

If you ride serious miles, travel unfamiliar roads, or simply believe in protecting your investment, the Trashin’ Skid Plate deserves a spot on your bike. Mine has earned a permanent place on the Road Glide.
